Yamaha has given us a look at their first upcoming electric scooter: the Yamaha EMF.
The concept art features a sleek and stylish design that set’s it apart from what we’d traditionally expect from Yamaha. It certainly screams futuristic, from striking body panels leading up the front fork to its taillights trailing off the afterburner.

Yamaha hasn’t revealed the full specs for the EV yet, but they have said it runs a 7.6 kW mid-mounted motor and has four-piston hydraulic disc brakes to bring it to a stop quickly.
Check out the concept video below, which plays like a science-fiction superhero story.
Acceleration might actually be as fast as depicted, with Yamaha claiming 0-50 km/h (31 mph) time of 3.5 seconds. Although, the company hasn’t shared the EMF’s top speed yet.
Interestingly, riders will find a cupholder and a small storage compartment between their feet. However, I wouldn’t leave anything valuable in there unless it locks. You can browse more details on their official website.
Yamaha & Gogoro
Powering the Yahama EMF are Gogoro’s swappable batteries, designed to be exchanged and recharged within their network of stations.
It’s becoming a popular solution for scooter manufacturers to bypass battery development. Yamaha can simply fast-track electric scooter designs by building around existing battery architecture instead of inventing their own. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?
But the Gogoro batteries benefit consumers as well. In Taiwan, where the Yamaha EMF will first release, there are currently more Gogoro stations than gas stations – a testament to their convenience. Now, if only they would make swappable batteries to power electric cars!
While Yahama may be a little late to the electric game, they make up for the lost time. We’re expecting two more electric scooters from Yamaha this year and can’t wait to see what else is in store.
