Production will begin in the US and Germany by the end of the year, with the minus hitting markets by 2023. With an 82 kWh battery pack, there might be enough nostalgia to sell this new-age microbus.

“With its twelve modules, the battery system supplies a 201 horsepower electric motor, which drives the rear axle. Maximum torque of 229 lb-ft is available and the top speed is limited to 90 mph. More battery versions with various power output levels are expected to follow in 2023.”

Curiously, the automaker didn’t reveal any details on the range, so we don’t yet know how far the I.D Buzz can go. There’s nothing to worry about if it’s anything like their other electric vehicles.

It’s all about the details

Owners of the original VW minibus will remember its versatility, customizing the entire interior with personal modifications. Thankfully, Volkswagen will enable you to do that again with a special cargo version that is completely bare on the inside.

The standard length ID. Buzz will launch with five seats. The seats are completely adjustable in top trims and have both memory and massage functions as a nice luxurious touch. A three-person bench seat in the rear can fold down entirely or split 40:60.

There’s also an optional height-adjustable trunk floor, which creates a level load space surface, more than enough for luggage. Last but not least, you’ll find two side sliding doors, one on either side.

Volkswagen says that a six-seat configuration with three rows of two seats will come later, along with an extended wheelbase version that will allow a seven-seat design, with two in the front, three in the middle, and two in the back.

The VW I.D Buzz launches in Europe in May. However, don’t expect to find it in the US until 2024.
