The newly unveiled Naon Zero-One electric two-wheeler stands out from the crowd with a fresh design in a sea of similar-looking e-scooters in the market.

Between the flat running boards, exposed rear swingarm, and angular seat, the sharp style of this e-bike is the exact opposite of the rounded design of familiar Vespa-styled electric scooters.

But aside from looks, the Naon Zero-One also brings an impressive performance. Of course, we’d expect nothing less from German manufacturing.

Two Zero-Ones

The L3e version of the scooter can reach a top speed of 100 km/h (62 mph) thanks to a 7 kW rear hub motor with a 10 kW peak power rating. That’s fast enough for short highway trips, letting riders reach beyond the urban terrain. The maximum range is 140 km (87 miles), and a rider can add a second battery to extend the journey. The l3e will cost $7,360 US.

The L1e version, on the other hand, has a more modest speed of 45 km/h (28 mph). However, the loosened licensing might attract younger riders who only need a local ride to get around dense cities. The L1e is also significantly cheaper at just $1,145 US.

A selling point for some riders will likely be Zero-One’s unique storage capacity. Instead of storing the batteries under the seat, the Naon scooter holds its removable batteries under the riders’ feet. That means the space under the center is open for storage. While not as large as a trunk, it should provide utility for smaller items and avoid carrying a backpack.

The Naon-Zero is also a two-seater, using those long at running boards instead of pillion footpegs. You get a partially transparent front shield, but surprisingly, no battery is included. To get one, you can either shell out another $1,145 or rent one for $25 per month.
