With the rest of the world’s vehicles shifting towards electrification, it should come as no surprise that electric snowbikes will be here soon.

French startup MoonBikes announced that its first batch of electric snowbikes are set to arrive by December 2021. While pre-orders for this first round have already closed, pre-orders have already opened for the second round of snowbikes. These cost $8,500 without add-ons, and will be arriving in Q1 2022 in limited quantities.

Founded by aeronautical engineer Nicolas Muron, MoonBikes was born out of the innate need for additional winter mobility options. After three years of research, development, and rigorous testing in the French Alps, the company emerged last year to introduce the first electric bike designed for snow travel.

Oh, what fun it is to ride

MoonBikes announced on Wednesday that 250 of their electric snowbikes will be delivered to buyers in December.

Available in white and red colorways, these electric snowbikes are powered by one rear hub-mounted 3kW electric motor with 125 pound-feet of torque. They reach a top speed of 26 miles per hour and are operable in snow up to one foot deep. Additionally, they can climb up 30 degree slopes and will support up to 264 pounds of weight.

As mentioned before, each pre-ordered electric snowbike costs $8,500 before add-ons. In terms of add-ons, a “Power Pack” can be had for an additional $1,800. This includes a second 1.2kWh battery and its charger. There is also a “Fast Charger” that can be added on for an additional $480.
