Traditionally, Trek has built premium electric bicycles for seriously committed cyclists. While having high-quality materials, the corresponding high price has put their bikes out of reach from first-time or casual riders. For instance, some of Trek’s top models will cost you over $8,000. That’s a bit much for those who just want to get some fresh air without showing off top-tier components.

Trek aims to fix that with two new affordable models that live up to their reputation — the FX+ for everyday commuters and the Dual Sport+ for those who want to dip their toes into dirt biking. Both cost $2,399, a few thousand dollars less than most of Trek’s e-bikes.

There’s no mid-drive motor for that price, but you’ll get a 250W hub motor with only 40 Nm of torque. But at full power, the bike offers to assist up to 20 mph (32 km/h), making it a Class 1 e-bike in the US. There’s no suspension, but the 2-inch tires should give enough relief for most short trips.

Powering that motor is a 250Wh battery hidden in the frame; Trek says it’s good for 35 miles (56 km) of range on a single charge. However, riders can double that range to 70 miles (112 km) with an available auxiliary battery that slides into the water bottle holder. Other features include a nine-speed transmission, hydraulic disc brakes, and front and rear LED lights.

Both bikes come in four sizes, S, M, L, and XL, and weigh around 38 lbs (17.5 kg). By choosing Trek, you’re also getting peace of mind and support from a company with a worldwide service network should you need any repairs.
