The Canadian-based company ElectricMeccanica aims to make the urban commute more efficient, cost-effective and environmentally friendly. They believe the key to doing so is a single-passenger, three-wheeled electric car called the Solo.

Given that 80% of drives are done alone, it’s not a bad option, especially for those living in the city. Plus, the Solo is eligible to drive in the HOV lane to get through traffic faster.
“It has appeal for driving enthusiasts, practical commuters and the environmentally conscious. We believe the Solo will become the commuter vehicle of choice for the masses. The vehicle is non-polluting, very economical to operate and people will have a heck of a good time driving it too.”
-Henry Reisner, the Canadian company’s COO.
The Solo EV can go up to 80 mph with 100 miles of range on continuous acceleration. The 144v 17.4 kWh battery powers a 56 hp (42 kW) electric motor, enabling the three-wheeler to accelerate from 0-60 mph (96 km/h) in under 12 seconds. Charging takes about two and a half hours on a 110v outlet.
You’ll find five cubic ft of storage space in the rear trunk, but it’s only enough for one person’s groceries or items. On the inside, you’ll find a rather impressive infotainment system. There are four displays behind the steering wheel, with the inner ones featuring Bluetooth entertainment with USB and the outer two acting as side-mirror cameras.
The adorable, attention-getting vehicle from ElectricMeccanica costs $18,500 and comes with a two-year full vehicle warranty. So they could be a decent solution for delivery drivers, ride-sharing services, couriers, or rental programs at that price.
