The arrival of the Tesla Model S Plaid in China has been in question for quite some time. The performance EV has seen deliveries in the US and Canada already. However, it has yet to debut in the world’s most populous country.

Now, we have an estimate as to when Chinese buyers will start to see their first Tesla Model S Plaid deliveries.

In a tweet posted late Sunday evening, Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the Model S Plaid would likely be arriving in China around March 2022.

The base Model S itself has seen a number of delivery delays lately. 

Tesla produces all of its Model S vehicles at the Fremont factory in California. As a result, the price customers in countries like China must pay to have a Tesla Model S imported is much greater.

Tesla has been enjoying a major production ramp from their Gigafactory in Shanghai. That said, the cars produced there include only the Model 3 and Model Y.

China is Tesla’s biggest market with EV interest growing exponentially in recent times. Tesla sold over 52,000 Model 3 and Model Y vehicles there in September alone. 

Elon Musk’s tweet is the first timeline given for the arrival of the Model S Plaid in China. This, undoubtedly, will help generate even greater country-wide interest in the brand heading into 2023.
