Segway pushes a standing scooter’s power and speed limits into a high-performance space. Compared to the new Segway GT2, most electric scooters with eight-inch wheels and 350W motors will seem like child’s play.

The GT2 scooter ups the ante with eleven-inch wheels and a pair of motors that total up to a whopping 3,000W. To put that in perspective, you’ll be hitting 48 km/h (30 mph) in just four seconds and blasting off at a top speed of 70 km/h (45 mph).

That’s right; this may be the first electric scooter to get you a speeding ticket.

However, riders can use an accompanying mobile app to tame the beast by toning down power levels. It’s probably a good idea if you’re commuting around town. If you’re looking for something more modest, check out our top picks of electric kick-scooters.

If you want to push the Segway GT2 to its limits at the race track or off-road, you’ll get some extra protection, too. The tires feature a “jelly layer” to shield against punctures and flat tires, keeping you riding longer. The 92mm tread is also wider than we’d expect, providing more traction. You’ll also get dual adjustable-damping hydraulic suspension rated for a max rider weight of 150 kg (330 lb).

The company claims that the scooter can travel 90 km (56 miles) on a single charge. There’s also a pretty cool transparent OLED screen between the handlebars to check the battery life and other stats.

No pricing details have been released yet, but we don’t expect this mighty micro-mobility machine to come cheap. If you’re looking for a bargain, check out our list of the best affordable electric scooters.
